‘Atleast Have Decency To Inform’ – Shaheen Afridi Furious Over PCB for Captaincy Snub Without Notice
Shaheen Afridi will step down from Pakistan’s captaincy soon
In the latest turn of events, the drama unfolds in Pakistan cricket as it has been reported that Babar Azam is all set to reclaim the captaincy of the Pakistan cricket team across all formats, following an approach by the PCB.
Babar Azam stepped down from his role as captain of the Pakistan team after their poor performance in the 2023 World Cup held in India last year, where the Men in Green failed to reach the top four.
Later, the PCB appointed Shaheen Shah Afridi as the T20 captain of the Pakistan team, while Shan Masood was given the responsibility of leading the Pakistan Test team.
However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is now considering reinstating Babar Azam as the captain across all formats. There is also speculation that Shaheen Shah Afridi will step down from the captaincy in the upcoming days.
Meanwhile, a source close to Shaheen Shah Afridi stated that he is unhappy with the way the Pakistan Cricket Board is handling the situation, expressing disappointment with the lack of communication from the PCB.
“Shaheen is rightly upset as being the national T20 captain he expected that even if the board/selectors wanted to remove him they have the decency to also inform him for the reasons behind this and keep him in the loop about everything,” a source was quoted as saying by PTI.
The source further mentioned that Shaheen Afridi was not kept in the loop as the PCB chief held discussions with the national selectors and Babar Azam earlier this week regarding the T20 World Cup.
“Shaheen believes that if the Board wants to remove him they should have informed him by now as he is even willing to step down himself. In fact now he has been advised by some of his close ones to do this and step away from all the chaos and confusion being caused by the Board,” the source said.
Notably, Shaheen Afridi has been removed as the captain of the Pakistan T20I team due to his poor performance, including a 1–4 defeat in the T20 series against New Zealand, as well as the dismal performance of his team, Lahore Qalandars, in the 2024 PSL, where they finished at the bottom of the points table.
