Asia Cup 2023: Bangladesh Head Coach Calls for Equal Treatment After ACC Provides Reserve Day to IND vs PAK Match Only
Bangladesh and Sri Lanka head coaches expressed disappointment over ACC’s decision.
In a surprising move, the Asian Cricket Council has thrown in a backup plan for the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2023 Super Four match scheduled for September 10 in Colombo. They have added a reserve day on September 11, just in case the rain decides to spoil the game on Sunday.
However, they have made this move solely for the India-Pakistan match, leading to chaos among cricket boards (Sri Lanka and Bangladesh), who are openly expressing their frustration with this partial decision.
Bangladesh’s head coach, Chandika Hathurasingha, openly criticized the ACC’s decision to allocate a backup day exclusively for the India vs. Pakistan clash, stating that they would have also appreciated having an extra day.
“I have not seen anything like this earlier. This is something new. It’s not ideal,” said Chandika Hathurusingha, the Bangladesh head coach, on Friday ahead of his team’s clash against Sri Lanka.
“We would love to have an extra day as well. Other than that I don’t have much to comment on because they (technical committee) have made a decision. There is a technical committee (in Asia Cup) represented by every participating country. They might have decided it for some other reason.”
Meanwhile, Chris Silverwood, Sri Lanka head coach also opened up on the matter, stating:
“Little surprised when I first heard, but at the same time we are not the organisers of the competition so not a lot we can do about that.”
“To be honest, it will be a problem if the reserve day then provides points to the teams and not someone else, but nothing we can do about it, so we keep preparing and do the best we can.”
Sri Lanka is all set to lock horns with Bangladesh on Saturday, September 09 at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo while India will take on the arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday, September 10 at the same venue.
