Aleem Dar Surpasses Rudi Koertzen’s Record For Most ODIs as an Umpire
Pakistani Umpire Aleem Dar on Sunday surpassed Rudi Koertzen's record of most One-Day Internationals as an umpire in the second match between Pakistan and Zimbabwe at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Pakistani Umpire Aleem Dar on Sunday surpassed Rudi Koertzen’s record of most One-Day Internationals as an umpire in the second match between Pakistan and Zimbabwe at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Dar has featured in total 210 ODIs as an umpire and is followed by Rudi Koertzen, who has officiated in 2019 matches. Billy Bowden is third in the list with 200 matches. Steve Bucknor is fourth with 181 matches. Simon Taufel and Daryl Harper has featured in 174 matches and are fifth in the list.
Aleem Dar holds the record for umpiring the most Test matches in a Test match played in Australia and New Zealand in Perth last year.
In such a situation, Aleem Dar has recorded the highest record of umpiring in ODIs and Test matches. He has so far played the role of an umpire in 132 Tests, 210 ODIs and 46 T20s. He already holds the record for the highest number of umpires in 387 international matches.
“It is a matter of great honour for me to be on the top of the list of both Tests and ODIs for umpires,” Dar was quoted as saying in an ICC media release.
“When I had started out in the profession, I had never imagined I would get this far. I can only say that I have enjoyed every moment on the field and learning has been an ongoing process all this while,” he added.
Dar has played first-class matches for Pakistan between 1986–87 and 1997–98 and had started umpiring in international matches since 2000.
Adrian Griffith, ICC Senior Manager Umpires and Referees congratulated Dar and said: “Aleem has been a very consistent umpire over the years, and this is reflected in his 16 years on the ICC Elite Panel of Umpires.”
“We congratulate Aleem on the milestone and wish him all the best for the upcoming game and series. We are sure many aspiring match officials look up to Aleem, and he will continue to inspire the next generation,” he added.
Aleem Dar has also won the title of umpiring most times in international matches.
