AB de Villiers Reveals Why Virat Kohli Stopped Talking to Him for Months

AB de Villiers revealed that Virat Kohli stopped talking to him for months after he accidentally revealed the cricketer’s personal news.

Former South African batter AB de Villiers has opened up about the time Virat Kohli did not speak to him for months. The reason? A slip of the tongue.

In February 2024, de Villiers accidentally revealed during a YouTube live session that Kohli and Anushka Sharma were expecting their second child. The couple had kept the news private until then, and AB’s revelation surprised fans and media alike.

In a recent interview with Cricket.com, de Villiers admitted that Kohli was upset and did not talk to him for a while.

“Thank goodness, because I did have a bit of a footfall not so long ago when they were expecting their second child. So I was very relieved when he started talking to me again,” he said.

Kohli Reconnected During a Tough Phase

AB said Virat reached out to him six months ago during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25 when he was struggling mentally. Kohli wanted to talk about how to deal with tough times and asked AB for advice.

“He was going through a phase — considering his age, the pressure of always being in the team, and the overall environment. I shared my honest thoughts with him, based on what I’ve seen and experienced,” AB added.

De Villiers Backs Kohli’s Test Retirement

AB also spoke about Kohli’s decision to take a break from Test cricket, saying it likely came from the heart.

“I support him 100%. He’s had a wonderful career, and I want him to enjoy the game till the very end. Hopefully, there’s still a lot of white-ball cricket left in him.”

The two legends share a strong bond, especially from their years together at Royal Challengers Bangalore. Despite the brief fallout, their friendship seems to have returned to normal.
