The result gave them their longest winning streak in T20Is, but they still trail Afghanistan and India, who share the record among full member nations with 12 consecutive wins.

The world record belongs to Uganda, who strung together 17 wins in a row. Pakistan and New Zealand have also managed nine straight victories in the past, while England’s best stands at eight.

Mitchell Marsh’s side came into the series high on confidence after sweeping West Indies 5-0 in the Caribbean.

South Africa were expected to provide tougher resistance, but Australia maintained their dominance, securing a sixth consecutive T20I win over the Proteas.

Australia’s innings didn’t start smoothly. At 75 for 6, they were in deep trouble. Tim David rescued the hosts with a blistering 83, adding 59 runs for the seventh wicket with Ben Dwarshius to push the total to 178.

With the ball, Josh Hazlewood took charge, claiming three wickets to stifle South Africa’s chase. Despite efforts from Tristan Stubbs and Ryan Rickelton, the visitors fell short.

The second T20I will be played on Tuesday at the same venue, with Australia looking to push their winning run into double digits.
