IPL 2025: 3 Potential Replacements for Mitchell Marsh in LSG Squad

Here are three players who could replace Mitchell Marsh in IPL 2025 squad.

Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 due to a back injury. His participation in IPL 2025 is also uncertain, which could be a big blow for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), who signed him for ₹3.4 crores in the auction.

Marsh has played 42 IPL matches, scoring 665 runs at an average of 19.55 with three half-centuries. He has also picked up 37 wickets in the tournament. If he fails to recover in time, LSG will have to find a replacement. Here are three players who could fill his spot in the squad.

1. Mitchell Owen

Mitchell Owen was one of the most explosive batters in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25. He played a match-winning 108 off 42 balls in the final for Hobart Hurricanes, taking them to their first ever BBL title. He recently made his SA20 debut as well for Paarl Royals.

Owen is a top-order batter who can also contribute with the ball as a right-arm medium pacer. He has played 25 T20s, scoring 538 runs at an average of 31, with two centuries and a strike rate of 183. While he has not played in Asian conditions, his aggressive approach could make him an exciting addition to LSG.

2. Ben Duckett

LSG made headlines in the auction by signing Rishabh Pant for ₹27 crores, which left them with only six overseas players instead of the usual eight. This gives them the flexibility to bring in an overseas replacement for Marsh.

Ben Duckett is a top-order batter with vast T20 experience. He has played 202 T20s, scoring 5,120 runs with 33 fifties. He had registered himself in IPL mega-auction for base price of INR 2 crore but went unsold.

Duckett has been in great form recently. He smashed a 51 off 28 balls in the third T20I against India and followed it up with a 39 off 19 in the fourth game. LSG could benefit from his ability to handle both pace and spin well.

3. Cooper Connolly

The Australian all-rounder Cooper Connolly entered the IPL auction with a base price of ₹75 lakhs but went unsold. The 21-year-old could be a like-to-like replacement for Mitchell Marsh in LSG’s squad. He has been in great form off late.

Connolly, representing Perth Scorchers in BBL 2024-25, scored 351 runs in 10 innings, averaging 50, with two fifty-plus scores. He is also a handy left-arm spinner, taking six wickets in the tournament. His all-round abilities earned him an Australia call-up, and he could be a valuable addition to LSG’s squad.
