BCCI to Discuss Associate Membership for Andaman & Nicobar Cricket Association
BCCI will discuss associate membership for Andaman & Nicobar cricket, which could boost infrastructure and domestic opportunities
The BCCI will discuss granting associate membership to the Cricket Association Andaman & Nicobar Island at its Annual General Meeting on September 28 in Mumbai.
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are currently the only Union Territory without BCCI affiliation or representation in major domestic cricket tournaments.
If approved, associate membership could give cricket in the islands a major boost. The BCCI would be able to support infrastructure, improve facilities and help develop local players.
It could also open the door for an Andaman & Nicobar team to take part in major domestic competitions, including the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
A New Path for Cricket in the Islands
Unlike other Union Territories such as Delhi and Chandigarh, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands have not been part of the BCCI’s domestic cricket structure.
Jammu and Kashmir, another Union Territory, have already made their mark in Indian cricket after winning the 2026 Ranji Trophy. Andaman and Nicobar could now get a similar opportunity to build a stronger cricket system.
The AGM agenda includes the proposal titled, “Grant of Associate Membership to Cricket Association Andaman & Nicobar Island for the Union Territory of Andaman & Nicobar Islands.”
Associate membership would bring the region under the BCCI’s national framework and could provide a clearer path for young cricketers to compete at the domestic level.
For players from the islands, the move could create more opportunities to play competitive cricket and push towards higher levels of the game.
The September 28 AGM will therefore be an important moment for the future of cricket in Andaman and Nicobar, with the proposed membership potentially marking the region’s first major step into the BCCI system.
