IND vs AUS: David Warner Doubtful For 1st Test, He Was in Incredible Pain – Justin Langer
Australia head coach Justin Langer does not expect David Warner to be fit and available for the first Test against India, starting on December 17 in Adelaide.
Australia head coach Justin Langer on Monday said that he does not expect David Warner to be fit and available for the first Test against India, starting on December 17 in Adelaide. David Warner got injured in the second ODI and moved out of the field in pain. After witnessing his condition, it was expected that he might miss the final ODI in Canberra and the three T20 matches against India.
Warner had injured himself while making a dive to stop the ball in India’s chase. In the fourth over of India’s innings, Shikhar Dhawan hit the ball towards mid-off, where Warner made a dive to stop the ball and after this, Warner looked quite uncomfortable and walked out of the field. Scans later revealed that he suffered a groin strain.
“He’s strained his abductor in his groins and they tell me it’s a very painful injury,” Langer told SEN’s Sportsday WA on Monday night, as quoted by cricket.com.au.
“It looked like he got shot by a gun. He was in incredible pain in the changerooms after.
“We’ve just arrived in Canberra, so we won’t see him again for probably five or six days until we get back to Sydney.”
Langer further said that he is doubtful over Warner’s availability for the first Test. Langer also said that it “takes a bit of pressure off” the Test selection battle between openers Joe Burns and Will Pucovski.
“I’m not holding my breath that he’ll be ready for the first Test match, but with that said he’s the sort of elite professional who will be doing literally everything possible to be ready for it,” said Langer.
David Warner played magnificent innings in both the ODIs against India. In the first ODI, he smashed 69 runs off 76 deliveries. While in the second ODI, he smashed 83 off 77 balls. The Test series gets underway on December 17 with a day-night fixture in Adelaide.
