LPL 2020: No Matter What You Achieve, You Will Always be Criticised – Lasith Malinga

Sri Lanka T20 skipper Lasith Malinga has been criticised a lot since he announced his withdrawal from the upcoming inaugural edition of Lanka Premier League due to lack of time for preparation and training.
Not just this, few even questioned his patriotism saying that he was ready to play in Indian Premier League 2020 but he can not do efforts to get fit and play for his nation’s upcoming league. Notably, Malinga also ruled out of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League citing ‘personal reasons’.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Malinga replied to all the allegations of fans who are criticising him for not playing in the inaugural edition of Lanka Premier League. He said that preparing in the gym can never be equated with the vigour of a match.
“Some will wonder why the lack of preparation is a problem for someone who has played so much cricket. You can’t do this by just preparing in your gym at home.
“Before I bowl a yorker in a match, I practice bowling that delivery about a thousand times. It is not something that happens by accident.
“If I fail to bowl yorkers in the LPL, people will say you can bowl yorkers in the IPL and not in the LPL,” Malinga told Newswire.
Further, speaking on the ‘criticism’, the veteran said one will get criticised, no matter what he does.
“No matter what you achieve, sometimes you have to take the criticism too. The world knows what I have done for my country. The people who love me know it too. That is enough for me,” said Malinga.
Malinga was first expected to play for his home team, Galle Gladiators but after he pulled out, Pakistan wicket-keeper batsman Sarfaraz Ahmed was elected to lead the team. But as Sarfaraz Ahmed was selected for Pakistan’s Tour of New Zealand, he also ruled out of LPL 2020 and now Pakistan’s veteran batsman Shahid Afridi will lead the team.
Afridi was a part of ‘Multan Sultan’ in the recent concluded PSL. He had a decent tournament there but his team couldn’t make it to the finals. Now he will be seen leading Galle Gladiators in the upcoming Lanka Premier League, starting from November 27.
