Rohit Sharma reached the 12,000-run mark in ODI cricket during the second ODI against the West Indies in Guwahati on Wednesday.
The India opener completed the milestone in style, smashing his 35th ODI century during India’s huge chase of 406 runs.
Rohit became only the third Indian after Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli and the seventh batter overall to score 12,000 ODI runs.
He reached the landmark in 282 innings, making him the second-fastest batter to 12,000 ODI runs. Only Virat Kohli, who reached the mark in 242 innings, got there quicker.
Rohit Marks Milestone With Blazing Century
Rohit scored 101 runs from 75 balls, with 10 fours and six sixes. He brought up his century in only 72 balls as India made a flying start to their 406-run chase.
The century was Rohit’s 35th in ODI cricket, putting him among the leading century-makers in the format. He also became the first Indian batter to celebrate the 12,000-run milestone with a hundred in the same ODI.
Rohit and Shubman Gill produced a stunning opening stand of 255 runs, giving India a strong platform in the massive run chase.
His latest milestone also saw him move past Sachin Tendulkar’s mark for the number of innings needed to reach 12,000 ODI runs.
