IND vs SL 2026: India Dominate Day 2 as Sri Lanka Slip to 8/2 in Colombo

India strengthened their grip on the second Test against Sri Lanka after declaring at 503/9 on Day 2 in Colombo. Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel hit centuries as India took control of the match.

Padikkal scored 117, while Jurel remained unbeaten on 115. Their knocks helped India post a huge total before the visitors declared their first innings at 503/9.

Sri Lanka had a tough start after coming out to bat under gloomy light at the Sinhalese Sports Club. They lost two wickets in just three overs and ended the day at 8/2.

Yashasvi Jaiswal took a sharp diving catch at slip off Prasidh Krishna’s bowling to dismiss opener Lahiru Udara for just one run. The early wicket added more pressure on the hosts.

Manav Suthar then struck with the final ball of the day, dismissing Sri Lanka’s other opener Pathum Nissanka. Sri Lanka will now need a strong response on Day 3 to stay in the contest.

The day also saw an on-field clash involving Jaiswal and Sri Lankan pacer Asitha Fernando. Both players were fined 25% of their match fees and received one demerit point for a Level 1 ICC code violation.

India entered the second Test with a 1-0 lead and have now put themselves in a strong position to take the series. Sri Lanka face a big challenge with India’s bowlers already making early inroads.
