Mahipal Lomror Joins Surrey for Final Six County Championship Matches
Mahipal Lomror joins Surrey for their final six County Championship matches, adding batting depth and a spin option.
Mahipal Lomror has joined Surrey for the final six matches of the 2026 County Championship. The Rajasthan captain will strengthen Surrey’s batting and spin options for the final stage of the season.
The 26-year-old replaces Dan Lawrence, who has been recalled to the England Test squad, and Will Jacks, who is recovering from an ankle injury.
Lomror will also reunite with his Rajasthan teammate Rahul Chahar at Surrey. He is expected to add depth to the middle order while also giving the team another left-arm spin option.
Lomror has played 63 first-class matches, scoring nearly 4,000 runs at an average of 42.62. His record includes an unbeaten triple-century, while he has also taken 62 wickets with his left-arm spin.
Surrey are currently seventh in Division One with one win and two defeats. They have brought Lomror in ahead of their upcoming match against Nottinghamshire as they look to strengthen their squad.
“I’m happy to join Surrey for the remainder of the season. Playing in the County Championship is a huge opportunity for me to challenge myself in a new environment and learn from an experienced group,” Lomror said.
Surrey director of men’s cricket Alec Stewart said Lomror’s all-round ability was important after the club lost Lawrence and Jacks.
“With the loss of Lawrence and Jacks’ ability to bowl spin, it was important to add a batter who can bowl some overs of spin when required for the final stage of the season,” Stewart said.
Stewart also welcomed Lomror to the squad, saying the busy international, franchise and domestic cricket schedule had made the addition an important move for Surrey.
Lomror now gets the chance to experience County Championship cricket for the first time and make an impact as Surrey enter the final stretch of the 2026 season.
