Bangladesh Name Squad for Asia Cup 2026 and Asian Games
Bangladesh name a 15-member women's squad for the 2026 Asia Cup and Asian Games, led by Nigar Sultana Joty.
Bangladesh have named an unchanged 15-member women’s squad for the ACC Women’s Asia Cup 2026 in Dubai and the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
Nigar Sultana Joty will lead the side, with Nahida Akter continuing as vice-captain. The selectors have opted for stability ahead of two major tournaments taking place back-to-back.
Sarmin Sultana has returned to the squad, replacing Taj Nehar. The decision comes after concerns over Bangladesh’s opening combination and top-order consistency.
Chief selector said, “We tried Taj but she failed, which prompted us to bring Sarmin. Our other opener Dola (Dilara Akter) is not among runs and that is the reason we are keeping another opener in the squad.”
Dilara Akter has therefore missed out again after struggling for runs. Bangladesh will hope Sarmin’s return can add more stability at the top of the order.
The squad has plenty of experience in the bowling department. Nahida Akter will lead the spin attack, while Ritu Moni, Marufa Akter and Fariha Trishna will form the main pace options.
With the bat, Bangladesh will also rely on Sobhana Mostary, Juairiya Ferdous and Shorna Akter to provide important contributions throughout the tournaments.
Bangladesh’s Asia Cup campaign will begin on August 31 against Indonesia in Dubai. The team will then travel to Japan for the Asian Games, where they are scheduled to face China in the quarter-final on September 17.
The decision to use the same squad for both tournaments gives Bangladesh continuity and allows the team to build around an experienced core. The focus will now be on improving their batting while making the most of their strong bowling attack.
