Afghanistan Complete 4-0 ODI Series Sweep Against Ireland

Afghanistan beat Ireland by six wickets in the fifth and final ODI to complete a 4-0 series sweep. They chased down 299 in 48.5 overs, their highest successful ODI run chase.

Rahmat Shah led the chase with a brilliant unbeaten 143. He controlled the innings and took Afghanistan close to the target after Ireland posted a strong 298/7.

Sediqullah Atal gave Rahmat excellent support with 98 runs. The pair added 201 runs for the second wicket, putting Afghanistan firmly in control of the chase.

Atal missed out on a well-deserved century, but his innings gave Afghanistan the platform they needed. Rahmat then stayed till the end to finish the job.

Azmatullah Omarzai sealed the win with an unbeaten 24 from 14 balls. He also played a key role with the ball, taking 3/74 earlier in the match.

Ireland had set Afghanistan a challenging target after scoring 298/7. Curtis Campher top-scored with 96, while Harry Tector added a valuable 55.

Liam McCarthy was Ireland’s best bowler, taking 3/47. However, Afghanistan’s strong second-wicket partnership took the game away from the hosts.

Afghanistan won the toss and chose to bowl. With the series already decided, both teams made three changes to their playing XIs for the final match.

The victory capped a dominant tour for Afghanistan, who won four of the five scheduled ODIs, with one match ending without a result. Their record chase in the final game made the series finish on a high.
