Harmanpreet Kaur Becomes First Cricketer to Play 200 T20Is
Harmanpreet Kaur became the first cricketer to play 200 T20Is, reaching the historic milestone for India against South Africa.
India captain Harmanpreet Kaur created history by becoming the first cricketer, male or female, to play 200 T20 Internationals. She reached the landmark during India’s World Cup match against South Africa in Manchester.
The milestone is another major achievement in a career that has spanned more than 17 years. Harmanpreet made her international debut in March 2009 in an ODI against Pakistan and played her first T20I three months later against England.
Before the match, Harmanpreet was honoured with a special “200” jersey and commemorative cap. The presentation was made by India women’s head coach Amol Muzumdar and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana as teammates celebrated the historic moment.
Harmanpreet now sits comfortably at the top of the women’s T20I appearances list. She is ahead of Suzie Bates, who has played 184 matches, Danni Wyatt-Hodge with 183 appearances, and Ellyse Perry with 177.
The gap is even larger when compared with men’s cricket. Paul Stirling leads the men’s T20I appearances chart with 163 matches, while Rohit Sharma follows with 159.
Speaking about the achievement, Harmanpreet reflected on her long journey in international cricket.
“I think, honestly, it’s been an amazing journey. I never thought I’ll come that far, but I think God has been kind and I’m really thankful to him and to my family, friends, BCCI, all my teammates. They’ve been really supportive,”
Coach Amol Muzumdar revealed that he was feeling more nervous than the captain ahead of the landmark game.
“I think I’m more nervous playing 200th game and she is someone who looks very calm and hopefully she’ll enjoy the game,”
Harmanpreet’s achievement underlines her consistency, fitness and importance to Indian women’s cricket. The 200-match milestone also reflects the growth of the women’s game and India’s rising influence on the global stage.
