Batting first, India piled up 241 for 5, a total that set the tone early. The innings was built on fearless hitting, with several batters chipping in to keep the run rate high from start to finish.

Ishan Kishan was the biggest talking point. He smashed 53 off just 20 balls, hitting seven sixes and two fours. His brutal hitting all but locked his place at the top of the order.

Ishan added 80 runs in the powerplay with Abhishek Sharma, giving India a flying start. South Africa struggled to control the pace as the ball kept disappearing into the stands.

The momentum never dropped in the middle overs. Tilak Varma made 45 off 19, while Suryakumar Yadav chipped in with 30 off 16. Axar Patel added 35 off 23 to keep the scoreboard ticking.

At the death, Hardik Pandya played a sharp cameo of 30 off 10 balls. Rinku Singh scored 16 despite being hit on the helmet, showing grit in the final overs.

India tried out plenty of options with the ball, using nine bowlers in total. Abhishek Sharma also impressed here, picking up 2 for 32 and giving India control in the middle overs.

One concern was Harshit Rana, who bowled just one over, conceding 16 runs, before leaving the field and not returning. India will wait for updates on his condition.

Chasing 242, South Africa kept swinging but were always behind the required rate. Ryan Rickelton made 44 off 21, while Jason Smith scored 35 off 23.

Tristan Stubbs stayed unbeaten on 45 off 21, but the target proved too steep. South Africa finished on 210 for 7, falling short despite a late push.

India rested Jasprit Bumrah, using the game mainly to settle combinations. The result has almost confirmed Ishan and Abhishek as the opening pair.

Ishan is now expected to open with Abhishek in India’s tournament opener against USA at Wankhede on February 7.
