BCB Official Under Fire for Calling Tamim Iqbal an “Indian Agent”
BCB official faces backlash after calling Tamim Iqbal an Indian agent, with players and CWAB demanding apology and action.
A senior official of the Bangladesh Cricket Board has landed in serious trouble after making a personal attack on former captain Tamim Iqbal, triggering anger across Bangladesh cricket.
The controversy began when M. Nazmul Islam, chairman of the BCB’s finance committee and a Member of Parliament, posted a comment on Facebook calling Tamim Iqbal an “Indian agent.” The remark spread quickly and shocked fans and players alike.
The comment came after Tamim Iqbal shared his views on Bangladesh’s participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup in India. Tamim said the board should take logical and strategic decisions, instead of letting emotions guide them.
Tamim’s statement was linked to security concerns around the tournament and was seen by many as honest advice from a senior former player. However, Nazmul Islam appeared to take offence and responded with a political and personal accusation.
The backlash was swift and strong. Several current and former players came out in support of Tamim and criticised the BCB official for crossing a line and hurting the image of the sport.
Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed openly condemned the comment and said players deserved respect, especially someone who has served the country for years. His message was widely shared by fans online.
Former Test captain Mominul Haque also spoke out, calling the accusation baseless and damaging. He stressed that such remarks only divide the cricket community and distract from the game.
The Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh issued a strong statement demanding a public apology from Nazmul Islam. CWAB also urged the BCB board to take disciplinary action to stop such incidents in the future.
Many fans and former players believe the issue goes beyond one comment. They feel it raises questions about professionalism and freedom of opinion within Bangladesh cricket.
So far, the BCB has not issued an official response, but pressure continues to grow. The incident has once again highlighted the fragile relationship between cricket administration and former players in the country.
