Prithvi Shaw Goes Unsold Again at IPL 2026 Auction

Prithvi Shaw goes unsold at IPL 2026 auction for second straight year despite strong Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy form.

Prithvi Shaw’s struggles at the IPL auction table continued on Tuesday as the 26-year-old went unsold at the IPL 2026 mini auction.

This comes despite Shaw arriving with decent domestic form. He scored 183 runs in seven matches in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26 and struck at over 160, showing his intent and touch in the T20 format.

It is the second straight season where Shaw has failed to find a buyer. He had also gone unsold at the IPL 2025 auction, raising further questions over his future in the league.

Shaw has so far played only for Delhi Capitals in the IPL. He made his debut as a teenager and was once seen as a long-term option at the top of the order for both franchise and country.

In 79 IPL matches, Shaw has scored 1,892 runs at an average of 23.94 and a strike rate of 147.46. While the strike rate remains impressive, the lack of consistency and big seasons has clearly hurt his value.

Once regarded as a future India opener across formats, Shaw’s career has stalled over the last few years. Injuries, form dips, and competition for top-order slots have pushed him out of both the national setup and IPL plans.

Interestingly, his recent domestic numbers suggest form is not the main issue. Instead, teams may be unsure about his role, squad balance, or may have preferred other options in a crowded auction pool.

With another IPL season set to begin without him, Shaw will now look to keep scoring runs in domestic cricket and hope for a turnaround that brings him back into franchise plans in the future.
