IND vs SA 2025: Controversy Erupts Over Jasprit Bumrah’s 100th T20I Wicket – Did Third Umpire Get It Wrong?
Bumrah takes 100th T20I wicket in Cuttack amid no ball debate as India bowl out South Africa for 74.
Jasprit Bumrah hit a rare milestone in Cuttack. He picked up his 100th T20I wicket in the first match against South Africa and became the first Indian to take 100 wickets in Tests, ODIs and T20Is.
The moment came in the 11th over of South Africa’s chase. Dewald Brevis tried to lift a back of length ball and ended up giving a simple catch at extra cover. What should have been a clean milestone turned into a talking point within seconds.
The third umpire checked Bumrah’s front foot for a possible no ball. The side angle did not clearly show any part of the foot behind the line. After a long look, the call still went in favour of the bowler. Commentator Pommie Mbangwa said it “looked like a no ball” and fans on X questioned the decision. Many felt Brevis should have survived and the umpiring was not consistent.
An X user wrote, “Dewald Brevis is not out it’s no ball”
Another user wrote, “No way he reached 100th t20i wkt on a suspected no ball”
Here are few reaction from fans over no ball controversy
The incident did not change the match situation. South Africa were already 68 for 6 and needed 107 runs from the last 10 overs. India kept the pressure on. Bumrah, Axar, Arshdeep and Varun Chakravarthy took two wickets each. South Africa were bowled out for 74, their lowest score in T20Is.
India were sharp with both ball and field. This game was the series opener and both teams spoke about using the matches as preparation for the T20 World Cup. For India, Bumrah’s milestone added more excitement, even if it came with debate around technology and umpiring calls.
