Abhishek Sharma Creates World Record, Becomes First Indian to Pull Off This Extraordinary T20 Feat

Abhishek Sharma becomes first Indian to smash 100 T20 sixes in a calendar year, reaching 101 in 2025 with more games to come.

Abhishek Sharma crossed a rare landmark on December 6 when he became the first Indian to hit 100 sixes in a single T20 calendar year. The record came during Punjab’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Elite Group match against Services in Hyderabad.

He reached the mark with a clean strike over long on. He went on to score 62 runs off 34 balls that day, hitting eight fours and three sixes.

His six hitting has been steady through the year. He has struck 47 sixes in 17 T20Is for India. He added 28 more in 14 games for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025. The rest have come in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament. His tally for 2025 now stands at 101 sixes.

He already owned the Indian record. In 2024 he hit 87 sixes and passed Suryakumar Yadav’s mark of 85 set in 2022. This new record takes him into a different zone as he now sits among global big hitters.

Around the world, Nicholas Pooran still holds the record for most T20 sixes in a year. Chris Gayle was the first player to cross 100 sixes and managed the feat in six separate years of his career. Abhishek has now joined that exclusive group of century hitters.

Karanbir Singh of Austria leads the 2025 world list with 122 sixes. Abhishek still has a chance to climb higher. India play a five match T20I series later this month. If he continues his current form he could become only the second player from a Test nation to hit 50 T20I sixes in a year.

His rise as a power hitter has been quick and sharp. Coaches say his clean swing and fearless intent have changed India’s approach at the top. One state coach said, “He backs himself from ball one. That freedom is his biggest strength.”

Abhishek’s new milestone shows how far his game has come. It also hints at the heights he can reach as he chases bigger global numbers in the weeks ahead.
