Major trades and surprise releases shaped the IPL 2026 retention window. Franchises made bold calls as they reworked their squads ahead of the mini-auction on December 16 in Abu Dhabi.
Sanju Samson moved from Rajasthan Royals to Chennai Super Kings in one of the biggest trades of the season. CSK sent Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran to RR in exchange.
Mohammed Shami joined Lucknow Super Giants after moving out of Sunrisers Hyderabad. Shardul Thakur headed to Mumbai Indians, while Arjun Tendulkar shifted to LSG.
Many big names were also released. KKR let go of Andre Russell and Venkatesh Iyer. CSK released Matheesha Pathirana, Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra. PBKS released Glenn Maxwell and Josh Inglis. DC released Faf du Plessis and Jake Fraser-McGurk. LSG let go of Ravi Bishnoi and David Miller.
Despite all the movement, some teams kept their core strong. CSK confirmed Ruturaj Gaikwad as captain and retained MS Dhoni. MI held on to Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah. LSG backed Mayank Yadav, while GT continued with Shubman Gill as captain.
