GT likely to release Coetzee, Mendis, Tewatia, and others before IPL 2026 while retaining Gill, Rashid, Rabada, and Phillips.

The Gujarat Titans (GT) are preparing for a squad reset ahead of the IPL 2026 mini-auction, with the retention deadline set for today, November 15, 2025. After a mixed 2025 season, the franchise is likely to release several overseas and domestic players to strengthen their purse and refresh their bench.

GT have already made one confirmed move, sending all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford to Mumbai Indians in an all-cash trade. This signals a shift toward rebuilding their overseas core with more consistent performers.

Among the expected exits is Kusal Mendis, who joined GT in 2025 but is likely to be released following Rutherford’s trade and the team’s need to reset their batting options.

All-rounder Dasun Shanaka, who did not get a single game last season, is another likely release as GT look to free an overseas slot.

South African pacer Gerald Coetzee struggled to make an impact in 2025 and could also be shown the door. The team may prefer bowlers with better control and consistency at the death.

Karim Janat, who played only one match, is expected to be replaced by a more reliable overseas all-rounder.

In the domestic group, Gurnoor Brar, Jayant Yadav, and Nishant Sindhu may be released after limited involvement. GT are likely to bring in younger domestic talent to strengthen their bench and improve squad depth.

Veteran pacer Ishant Sharma, who battled high economy rates, is another likely exit as GT move toward a younger pace attack.

Big-hitting all-rounder Rahul Tewatia is also on the review list after an inconsistent batting season in 2025. His release would open up cap space for a fresh finisher in the middle order.

GT will keep their main Indian core intact. Captain Shubman Gill, top-order star Sai Sudharsan, and all-rounders Washington Sundar and Sai Kishore are expected to stay. Finisher Shahrukh Khan is also likely to be retained for his late-overs hitting.

In the overseas group, Rashid Khan and Kagiso Rabada remain central to GT’s plans as leaders of the spin and pace attacks.

GT are also set to retain Glenn Phillips at ₹2 crore. Despite missing the 2025 season due to injury, he remains a valuable multi-role overseas option.
