“Varun Chakaravarthy More Valuable Than Bumrah” – Ex-CSK Star’s Explosive Take
Ex-CSK star Subramaniam Badrinath claims Varun Chakaravarthy is more valuable than Jasprit Bumrah, calling the spinner India’s biggest T20 asset ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Former India and Chennai Super Kings batter Subramaniam Badrinath has made a bold claim, saying Varun Chakaravarthy is currently more valuable to Team India than Jasprit Bumrah.
Speaking on Star Sports, Badrinath said the mystery spinner has reached a “different level” with his bowling and is now India’s biggest asset in T20Is.
Badrinath’s comments come at a time when Chakaravarthy is sitting at the top of the ICC T20I bowling rankings. Interestingly, Bumrah also holds the No.1 position in Tests.
“Numbers tell us that Varun Chakaravarthy is the No.1 T20 bowler in the world. He’s more valuable than even Bumrah,” Badrinath said.
“Whenever runs are flowing be it in the powerplay, middle overs, or even the 18th Varun is the go-to bowler. After his comeback, he’s taken his game to another level.”
The former CSK star also credited Chakaravarthy’s remarkable turnaround after earlier struggles with form and fitness.
“He’s made a superb comeback. In this second phase, he’s fitter, sharper, and has become India’s biggest T20 weapon,” he added.
Badrinath went on to say that the 33-year-old spinner could be the most important factor for India at the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2026, which will be held at home.
“He’s a huge asset for India, in fact, a weapon. If Varun has a good day, there’s a great chance the Indian team will too,” Badrinath said.
Both Bumrah and Chakaravarthy were instrumental in India’s Asia Cup 2025 triumph in the UAE, and their form will once again be crucial as India aim to defend their title at home next year.
