“Trophy Must Reach Mumbai in 48 Hours” – Frustrated BCCI Threatens Mohsin Naqvi

BCCI warns Mohsin Naqvi to send the Asia Cup trophy to Mumbai within two days or face escalation at the ICC meeting amid the ongoing handover dispute.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finally run out of patience over the Asia Cup trophy delay and issued a strong message to Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi, send the trophy to Mumbai within two days or face escalation at the ICC’s upcoming meeting in Dubai.

It has been more than a month since India lifted the 2025 Asia Cup after defeating Pakistan in a thrilling final in Dubai. Yet, the winning trophy is still not in BCCI’s possession. This unusual situation has left Indian fans and the board equally frustrated.

BCCI joint secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the issue will be brought up at the ICC’s quarterly meeting on November 4 if the trophy is not returned soon. Speaking to PTI, he said the board had already written to the ACC chairman nearly ten days ago but had received no response.

“Yes, we are a bit unhappy that the trophy hasn’t reached us even after all this time,” Saikia said. “But we hope it arrives at the BCCI office in Mumbai within the next couple of days. If not, we’ll raise it formally at the ICC meeting.”

The controversy began during the post-match presentation on September 28, when India refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan’s interior minister. Soon after, the trophy was taken off the stage by an ACC official, which left Indian players celebrating without it, a first in Asia Cup history.

Naqvi has reportedly said he is ready to hand over the trophy but insists that India send a representative to collect it directly from him. The BCCI, however, stands firm that the trophy should be sent officially to its headquarters, not received in person.
