Jonathan Trott Ends Rift With Afghanistan Cricket Board Ahead of T20 World Cup
Jonathan Trott confirms that all communication issues with the Afghanistan Cricket Board have been resolved, saying both sides are united ahead of the T20 World Cup.
Jonathan Trott has cleared the air with the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) after weeks of speculation about internal miscommunication and uncertainty over his future as head coach.
The former England batter confirmed that all issues have been resolved and the team’s focus is now firmly on the upcoming assignments.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the home series against Zimbabwe, Trott admitted that there had been misunderstandings in the past but insisted that they are now behind them.
“We had a good conversation with the ACB, me, and the top management. We’ve come to a mutual understanding and agreed on the way forward. The issues have been resolved,” Trott said.
Reports had earlier suggested that there were lapses in communication between Trott and senior ACB officials regarding team selections and player management.
However, the 43-year-old said the recent meetings were productive and helped improve coordination.
“The communication is now clear, and we’re all working together as we prepare for a challenging series against Zimbabwe, with an eye on the T20 World Cup in the subcontinent,” he added.
Trott praised the ACB for its openness during discussions and said both sides had a chance to reflect and improve.
“I think these discussions can be beneficial as they highlight areas for improvement on both sides. The communication over the past few days has been excellent, and I’ve really appreciated it. I’m excited for what lies ahead in the coming months,” he said.
While ACB officials are reportedly keen on keeping Trott beyond the T20 World Cup, the coach said his focus remains on the immediate goals.
“There have been good discussions over the past few days. I’ve signed till the 2026 World Cup, and I’m really looking forward to the future. We were disappointed with our Asia Cup performance, but it’s important to bounce back, and the players have been training hard,” Trott said.
Afghanistan will host Zimbabwe next month before beginning their preparations for the T20 World Cup, where Trott’s leadership and clarity of communication will be under the spotlight once again.
