“I Am Always in Controversy” – Mohammed Shami Breaks Silence on Ajit Agarkar Rift

Mohammed Shami ends talk of controversy with Ajit Agarkar, says he’s fit, focused, and ready for India comeback after eight-wicket Ranji Trophy performance

Mohammed Shami has had his share of headlines, but this time, he’s keeping things simple. After a brilliant return to domestic cricket, the senior pacer made it clear he’s tired of controversies and only wants to focus on performing for Bengal and earning his India comeback the right way.

Speaking after Bengal’s 141-run win over Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy, where he picked up eight wickets, Shami said he feels fully fit and ready for international cricket once again.

“A lot of hard work is there, and I believe luck also plays a part. Every player wants to play for the country. I’m ready for that again,” Shami told reporters at Eden Gardens.

The 34-year-old, who missed India’s tour of Australia after being left out by the selectors, avoided adding fuel to recent talks of a fallout with chief selector Ajit Agarkar.

“I am always involved in some controversy, thanks to you guys (laughs). It’s a misunderstanding,” Shami said with a smile.

Instead, his focus remains on what he controls, fitness and bowling rhythm.

“My motivation is to stay fit and available for the Indian team at all times. On the ground, I will continue to perform. The rest is on the selectors,” he added.

Back on the field after nearly a year out with ankle surgery, Shami admitted the comeback felt special.

“It’s a relief. Mentally and physically, it feels very good because you’re coming back from a difficult time. Now it feels like cricket is still there in me,” he said.

He also credited the Bengal management for standing by him and even requested a green-top wicket at Eden Gardens to help Bengal’s fast bowlers shine.

“We have four quality pacers. If we can get green tops, we should, because we have the ability to win outright and earn six or seven points,” Shami said.
