After India’s 9-wicket win at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Rohit bagged both the Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards. He scored 202 runs in three matches at an average of 101, silencing talks about his form and future.

There had been growing speculation about retirement for both Rohit and Kohli, but their match-winning partnership and consistent performances proved the critics wrong.

Kaif shared an interesting moment from after the match.

“Virat Kohli was on the phone, while Rohit Sharma, after receiving his awards, walked past Gautam Gambhir. They might have exchanged smiles, but Rohit simply walked past him,” Kaif said on his YouTube channel.

He added that the short moment said a lot about the phase both players are in.

“It’s clear now that both have understood that their respect is in their own hands. If they score runs, they’ll stay in the team,” Kaif explained.

The former India batter also drew a comparison between their current approach and how newcomers think.

“When you’re a newcomer, you know no one is going to back you, and you have to perform to stay in the team. Now, towards the end of their careers, they have that same mindset,” Kaif added.

Rohit and Kohli’s partnership in Sydney not only secured India a strong win but also reminded fans that experience still matters, especially when backed by performance. Both veterans now seem focused purely on the basics, scoring runs and leading by example.
