‘If You Want It…’: Mohsin Naqvi-led ACC Offers Asia Cup Trophy to India in Dubai Ceremony
The ACC offers India a November ceremony to receive the Asia Cup trophy after BCCI refused to accept it in Dubai, with support from Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been offered a chance to receive the Asia Cup trophy in a special ceremony by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in Dubai next month.
The offer came after India formally requested the handover of the trophy following their win over Pakistan in the Asia Cup final last month.
According to reports, the ACC told the BCCI, “If you want the trophy, we can hold a ceremony where you can receive it.” The presentation is expected to take place in the first week of November.
The trophy has remained at the ACC headquarters since the Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian team refused to accept it from ACC President Mohsin Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s interior minister and PCB chairman.
The team’s refusal came amid tension during the Asia Cup 2025, as Indian players declined to shake hands with Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack. Following this, Naqvi took the trophy back with him in an unusual move.
BCCI has received backing from fellow ACC members Sri Lanka and Afghanistan in this matter. The Indian board has reportedly rejected the ACC’s offer to collect the trophy directly from Dubai, insisting that the matter should be resolved at the ICC level.
Sources say the issue will likely be discussed at the upcoming ICC meeting next month, headed by former BCCI secretary Jay Shah.
“The BCCI secretary, ACC representative Rajeev Shukla, and representatives from Sri Lanka and Afghanistan wrote to the ACC president about handing over the trophy,” said an ACC source.
“The ACC’s response was that someone from BCCI should come to Dubai to take it. BCCI has made it clear they will not do that, so it will likely be decided at the ICC meeting.”
