The senior pacer, who has been in the news over his non-selection for India’s ODI squad, chose to answer with performance, not words.

Uttarakhand started the final day strongly at 165 for 2 and looked set for a big total. But once Shami got into rhythm, the match turned fast.

He removed captain Kunal Chandela for 72, and from there, the visitors collapsed. The last eight wickets fell for just 92 runs as Uttarakhand were all out for 265.

Shami bowled with sharp pace and smart reverse swing, finishing with 4 for 38 from nearly 25 overs. His post-lunch spell was especially deadly, as he cleaned up the lower order by removing Abhay Negi, Janmejay Joshi, and Rajan Kumar.

He got solid support from Akash Deep and Ishan Porel, who picked up two wickets each, ensuring Bengal stayed in full control. Only Prashant Chopra (82) and Chandela offered any fight for Uttarakhand, but their efforts were not enough.

Bengal chased down the 156-run target in quick time. Skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran anchored the innings with an unbeaten 71 from 82 balls, hitting six fours. Sudip Kumar Gharami made a brisk 46, and Vishal Bhati (16*) helped finish the job without fuss.

The win gave Bengal six important points and strengthened their place in the Group C table. For Shami, this match was more than just a domestic win, it was a clear message to the selectors. With form, fitness, and intent all on display, he reminded everyone why he remains one of India’s best red-ball bowlers.
