No Retirement! Rohit Sharma Promises to Bring Home the 2027 World Cup
Rohit Sharma confirms he will play in the 2027 ODI World Cup, vowing to win the title for India while putting all retirement rumours to rest.
Rohit Sharma has made it clear that he is not done with ODI cricket yet. The Indian opener confirmed that he will play in the 2027 ODI World Cup and promised fans that he’ll do everything he can to win it for India.
The 38-year-old cleared the air while speaking to a Make-A-Wish child in a heartwarming video that quickly went viral. When the young fan asked if he’d be around for the next World Cup, Rohit smiled and said:“Yes, I want to play.”
That one line was enough to end months of rumours about his retirement. Rohit’s statement comes at a time when many wondered if he was close to calling it a day in international cricket.
After leading India to the 2024 T20 World Cup title, he had already stepped away from T20Is and Tests earlier this year. ODIs, for now, remain his only international format, and clearly, he isn’t planning to give it up anytime soon.
The veteran batter still remembers the pain of losing the 2023 World Cup final to Australia in Ahmedabad. It was a campaign where India looked unstoppable until that one tough night. For Rohit, 2027 is another shot at the trophy that slipped away.
Ahead of India’s upcoming ODI series in Australia starting October 19, Rohit has reportedly undergone intense training and shed nearly 10 kilos under the guidance of Abhishek Nayar. That effort shows how serious he is about staying fit and ready for the challenge ahead.
Even though Shubman Gill now leads India’s ODI side, both Rohit and Virat Kohli will be part of the squad. Their experience could be crucial as India begins its journey toward the next World Cup, which will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
