The star of the show was debutant Rubya Haider, who scored an unbeaten 54 with eight fours to guide her team to 131-3 in 31.3 overs.

Her calm and confident innings anchored the chase as Bangladesh successfully overcame Pakistan’s total of 129. Their only previous World Cup win was also against Pakistan, in 2022 in New Zealand.

Rubya used her feet well against the spinners and built crucial partnerships with captain Nigar Sultana, who scored 23, and Sobhana Mostary, unbeaten on 24. The trio chased down the target comfortably, with boundaries flowing freely in the final stages.

Earlier, Pakistan struggled against Bangladesh’s spin attack on a batting-friendly pitch. Fast bowler Diana Beg struck early, trapping Fargana Hoque lbw in her second over, while Rameen Shamim dismissed Sharmin Akhter in the 12th over.

Bangladesh’s five spinners combined for eight wickets, keeping Pakistan under pressure throughout. Left-arm spinner Nahida Akter took 2 for 19, while 18-year-old Shorna Akter ran through the tail with career-best figures of 3 for 5 in just 3.3 overs.

Shorna even bowled three consecutive maiden overs before the bizarre hit-wicket dismissal of Nashra Sandhu. Pakistan’s Marufa Akter swung the new ball brilliantly, clean-bowling Omaima Sohail and Sidra Amin for ducks in the first over.

Amin, who had scored back-to-back ODI centuries against South Africa, fell for a golden duck for the first time in her ODI career. Shamim was Pakistan’s top scorer with 23, but the team was bowled out in 38.3 overs.
