“Shubman Gill Once Fooled Everyone With His ‘Innocent Face’ – Abhishek Sharma Spills the Beans
Abhishek Sharma recalls how Shubman Gill’s innocent face saved him from trouble in a mischief during their U-16 cricket days.
Young India opener Abhishek Sharma has revealed a playful story from his early cricketing days with teammate Shubman Gill. The two have known each other since their under-16 days in Punjab and now share the stage as India’s T20I opening pair.
Speaking on Breakfast with Champions, Abhishek remembered a moment from an under-16 tournament in Dharamsala.
The team stayed in a hotel close to the stadium and often traveled by bus. On one such ride, the youngsters wanted Punjabi music, but the driver kept switching it off. That led to an argument, and according to Abhishek, Gill was the loudest voice in the protest.
“The incident even reached the coaches after the drivers complained,” Abhishek said. “The funny part was, when they asked the drivers to identify who created the mess, Shubman got away. He stood at the end of the line, made an innocent face, and they pointed at the rest of us. We had to sign a letter, almost sent home, while the real culprit got saved.”
Abhishek laughed as he recalled how Gill always had a knack for mischief but never got caught, thanks to his expression-changing trick.
The two cricketers have come a long way since those mischievous bus rides. Gill has already established himself across formats, while Abhishek is enjoying a purple patch in international cricket.
After a breakthrough debut last year, he recently lit up the Asia Cup, scoring 314 runs at an average of 44.85.
Their rise from Punjab’s age-group teams to opening the innings for India in T20Is shows how their friendship has grown alongside their cricketing careers.
