R Ashwin Goes Unsold in ILT20 After Setting Base Price of 1.06 Crore
Ravichandran Ashwin went unsold in the ILT20 auction but will play BBL 15 for Sydney Thunder, becoming the first Indian men’s player in the league.
Veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin went unsold in the ILT20 Season 4 auction after failing to attract any bids from franchises.
The 38-year-old had listed himself in the top bracket with a base price of USD 120,000 (around INR 1.06 crore), but his name drew no interest when it first came up at the bidding table.
Ashwin had retired from the Indian Premier League earlier this year after a decorated career that spanned 221 matches across five franchises.
He finished as the league’s fifth-highest wicket-taker with 187 scalps and was part of Chennai Super Kings’ title wins in 2010 and 2011.
Despite the disappointment in ILT20, Ashwin has already secured a major overseas move. He will represent Sydney Thunder in the upcoming Big Bash League.
Sydney Thunder hailed the signing as one of the biggest overseas arrivals in the league’s history. Ashwin is expected to join the side in January as they aim for back-to-back finals after finishing runners-up last season.
