Pakistan Files Official Complaint Against Suryakumar Yadav, ICC Replies
ICC reviews PCB complaint against Suryakumar Yadav over post-match comments after India’s Asia Cup win.
India captain Suryakumar Yadav is facing an ICC review after comments he made following India’s Asia Cup win over Pakistan on September 14. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) filed an official complaint, prompting the ICC to take action.
Match referee Richie Richardson informed the Indian team management that he received two reports from the PCB regarding Suryakumar’s post-match presentation speech and press conference remarks.
According to Richardson, the comments “potentially harmed the image of the sport” and a charge should be brought against the Indian captain.
“The ICC has asked me to handle two reports lodged by the PCB regarding comments made by your captain during the presentation and post-match press conference. After reviewing all evidence, I have concluded that a charge should be brought for conduct that brings the game into dispute by making inappropriate comments,” Richardson’s email reportedly said.
Suryakumar will have the chance to accept the charge or face a formal hearing with the ICC match referee, a BCCI representative, a PCB representative, and himself.
The controversy stems from Suryakumar’s dedication of India’s win to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and his expression of solidarity with the armed forces. He also said the Indian team avoided post-match handshakes with Pakistan players, following BCCI and government guidance.
