ICC Suspends USA Cricket Over Governance Issues
ICC suspends USA Cricket over governance issues, but US teams can still play ICC events including 2028 Olympics.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended USA Cricket with immediate effect. The decision comes after repeated breaches of ICC rules and obligations, the governing body announced on Tuesday.
The ICC said the suspension followed a thorough review and talks with stakeholders over the past year. USA Cricket failed to implement a functional governance structure, showed little progress toward recognition by the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee, and took actions that harmed the reputation of cricket in the US and worldwide.
The ICC described the move as unfortunate but necessary to protect the long-term interests of the game. Despite the suspension, the USA’s national teams will still be allowed to take part in ICC events, including preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
In the meantime, the ICC and its appointed representatives will manage the operations of the USA national teams. This ensures players continue to get support while work is done to restore USA Cricket’s membership.
A Normalisation Committee set up by the ICC will monitor USA Cricket’s progress. It will guide reforms in governance and operations needed to lift the suspension and restore full ICC membership.
