The incident took place in the third over when Sanju Samson dived forward to catch Fakhar off Arshdeep Singh’s bowling. The on-field umpires sent it upstairs to check if the ball had touched the ground before entering Samson’s gloves.

Third umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge looked at two different angles. One replay suggested the ball might have bounced just in front of Samson, while the other showed it settling cleanly in his gloves. After reviewing, Ruchira ruled Fakhar out.

The decision stunned Fakhar, who had already raced to 15 runs from 8 balls. At that stage, Pakistan looked set for a strong total, and the dismissal quickly turned into one of the biggest talking points of the match.

Pakistan Voices Frustration

Following the game, Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha admitted that his team felt unlucky with the call.

“Umpires can make mistakes. But it did look like it bounced ahead of the keeper to me. I might be wrong. The way Fakhar was batting, we could have reached 190 if he stayed. But the umpire’s decision is final,” Salman said in the post-match press conference.

The dismissal has since divided fans on social media, with some saying Fakhar was unlucky while others believe the TV umpire had enough evidence to give him out.

With the PCB now filing an official complaint, it remains to be seen how the ICC responds, but the controversy has already added more heat to the India-Pakistan rivalry.
