“Deduct A Point From” – Gavaskar Slams Pakistan for Missing Press Conference
Sunil Gavaskar slams Pakistan for cancelling press conference before India clash, suggests deduction of points as penalty.
Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has criticised Pakistan for cancelling their pre-match press conference ahead of the Super Four clash against India in the Asia Cup 2025.
Pakistan had taken a similar step before their earlier game against UAE, and Gavaskar believes such behaviour should not go unchecked.
“I don’t know what Pakistan is thinking. According to me, press conferences are mandatory, and it is also important to interact with the media to end all the speculations. It is better to convey points directly to the media to avoid any confusion. It seems Pakistan have nothing to share,” Gavaskar told India Today.
The batting legend further suggested that the Asian Cricket Council should introduce penalties for teams that skip press duties.
“If there is a rule stating that press conferences are mandatory, then a point should be deducted from the table of a team that fails to follow the guidelines,” he said.
Pakistan are under pressure after their seven-wicket defeat to India in the group stage of the tournament. Ahead of the rematch, they have also brought in psychologist Dr Raheel Kareem to work with the squad.
