Asia Cup 2025: India Qualify for Super Four, Pakistan-UAE Match to be Knockout
India qualify for Asia Cup Super Four after UAE beat Oman. Pakistan vs UAE clash will now decide the second spot.
India became the first team to qualify for the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2025 after the UAE stunned Oman by 42 runs in Abu Dhabi on Monday.
Oman, who slipped to their second defeat in a row, were knocked out of the tournament in the group stage.
India had already done most of the hard work by beating the UAE in their opener and then thrashing Pakistan by seven wickets in Dubai.
With two wins from two games, Suryakumar Yadav’s team only needed the UAE to avoid an early exit. The result against Oman confirmed India’s place in the next round with one group match still to play.
India, the defending champions, will now face Oman in their final Group A game on Friday. That match will have no impact on their qualification but could decide the momentum heading into the Super Four stage.
Pakistan vs UAE to Decide Second Spot
With India through, the race for the second Super Four spot from Group A now depends on Wednesday’s clash between Pakistan and the UAE.
On paper, Pakistan are the stronger side, but their participation itself is under doubt.
Media reports suggest the PCB has threatened to pull out after the no-handshake controversy in the India game and their demand to remove referee Andy Pycroft was turned down by the ICC.
If Pakistan play, it will be a virtual knockout, with the winner joining India in the Super Four. If they don’t, the UAE will advance.
UAE’s Clinical Show Against Oman
Put in to bat, UAE openers Muhammad Waseem and Alishan Sharafu gave their side a flying start.
Waseem struck 69 off 54 balls while Sharafu hammered 51 from 38 deliveries to power UAE to 172 for five.
In reply, Oman were bundled out for 130 in 18.4 overs. Junaid Siddique was the star with the ball, taking 4 for 23.
The win has not only kept UAE alive in the tournament but also ensured India’s safe passage to the next stage.
