India had a nervous moment in training as opener Shubman Gill copped a painful blow on his hand just a day before the Asia Cup clash against Pakistan. The incident briefly raised doubts over his availability, but Gill later returned to the nets.
Gill Hit On The Hand In Practice
According to The Times of India, Gill was struck on the hand during a net session and looked in visible discomfort. Team physios rushed to check on him as he walked off with an ice-pack, leaving the camp concerned.
Suryakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambhir quickly checked on the vice-captain. Thankfully for India, Gill returned to bat after some time, though he was not moving as freely as usual. Reports suggest he is fit and should play on September 14.
Crucial Role For India At The Top
Gill’s presence at the top of the order is vital for India. Despite not playing a T20I since July 2024, the team management showed faith in him ahead of Sanju Samson. He opened alongside Abhishek Sharma against UAE and looked fluent.
Gill also has a solid record against Pakistan. In four matches, he has scored 130 runs at an average of 32.50, including a half-century. His ability to handle pressure in big games makes him key to India’s plans.
