Mohammed Shami Surprised Wasim Akram At The Airport – The Untold Story
Wasim Akram recalls how Mohammed Shami once dropped him at the airport during his KKR days, while praising Kuldeep Yadav’s Asia Cup heroics.
Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram turned nostalgic during India’s Asia Cup 2025 clash against UAE in Dubai, as he praised Indian bowlers Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav while recalling his time with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL.
While Shami is currently not part of India’s T20I squad, Kuldeep was at his lethal best on Wednesday night, picking four wickets, including three in a single over—as India bowled out UAE for just 57 runs in 13.1 overs.
“Kuldeep Yadav has been magnificent for India, and the UAE batters haven’t faced a quality spinner like him before,” Akram said on air.
The legendary pacer then shared a personal memory involving Shami. “Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav used to be with me during breakfast and other meals of the day. I could see the hunger in their eyes, and they wanted to achieve success. I am proud of what they have achieved for India,” he said.
Revealing a special gesture from Shami, Akram added, “I was heading back to Pakistan for a few days during one of the IPL seasons with the Kolkata Knight Riders. I was with the franchise for six years. Mohammed Shami came to drop me at the airport, and I was surprised by his act.”
Akram, who was associated with KKR as a mentor and bowling coach for six years, lauded both Shami and Kuldeep for their rise into match-winners for India.
