Asia Cup 2025: Abhishek Sharma Matches Rohit Sharma’s Iconic Six Hitting Record
Abhishek Sharma smashed a first-ball six vs UAE, joining Rohit Sharma, Samson, and Jaiswal in an elite T20I list.
Abhishek Sharma wasted no time making a statement in India’s Asia Cup 2025 opener against UAE. Chasing a modest target of 58, the left-hander smashed a six off the very first ball he faced, instantly setting the tone for a quick chase.
It was a full delivery outside off from Haider Ali, and Abhishek sent it sailing over wide long-off for a mighty six. The Punjab batter went on to score 30 from just 16 balls, with two fours and three sixes, before falling in the fourth over. His brief stay was enough to underline his fearless approach.
With this first-ball six, Abhishek has joined an elite list of Indian batters who have started their T20I innings in the most explosive way possible.
Rohit Sharma was the first to do it, smashing Adil Rashid for a six in Ahmedabad in 2021. Yashasvi Jaiswal repeated the feat against Sikandar Raza in Harare in 2024, while Sanju Samson hammered Jofra Archer for a first-ball maximum at the Wankhede earlier this year.
Indian Batters With First-Ball Six In T20Is:
- Rohit Sharma off Adil Rashid (Ahmedabad, 2021)
- Yashasvi Jaiswal off Sikandar Raza (Harare, 2024)
- Sanju Samson off Jofra Archer (Mumbai, 2025)
- Abhishek Sharma off Haider Ali (Dubai, 2025)
India wrapped up the game in just 4.3 overs, winning by nine wickets with 93 balls left, their biggest-ever T20I win in terms of balls remaining.
The chase was set up by a ruthless bowling effort, with Kuldeep Yadav grabbing 4 wickets and Shivam Dube shining with a career-best 3 for 4.
Abhishek’s powerful start added to the momentum, showing once again how India’s new breed of batters are embracing the fearless T20 style.
