CSK Pulls Off Masterstroke: N Srinivasan Returns to Save Franchise After Worst IPL Season

Former BCCI chief N Srinivasan returns as CSK chairman at 80, giving the struggling IPL giants a big boost after their worst season in history.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have announced the return of their most influential figure, former BCCI president N Srinivasan, as chairman of the franchise.

The 80-year-old, who has been away from frontline cricket administration in recent years, will now play an advisory role as CSK look to rebuild after a disastrous IPL 2025 campaign.

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed the appointment, calling it a “great boon” for the franchise.

Srinivasan, who revolutionised CSK into one of the IPL’s most successful teams, will be directly involved in strategy and management but will avoid heavy travel due to age.

His return also extends beyond the IPL. Srinivasan will oversee CSK’s international operations, including their teams in South Africa’s SA20 and the US-based Major League Cricket, working alongside Gurunath, Viswanathan, and an experienced board panel.

The timing is significant. CSK finished bottom of the table in 2025, their worst-ever performance, with only four wins in 14 matches. Injuries to Ruturaj Gaikwad forced MS Dhoni to step in, but even the veteran could not save the season.
