After IPL Retirement, R Ashwin Registers for ILT20 Auction

Ravichandran Ashwin is reportedly in talks with ILT20 organisers and may enter the auction for the 2025 season after retiring from the IPL earlier this year.

R Ashwin could soon be seen in the UAE as reports suggest the veteran off-spinner is in discussions with International League T20 (ILT20) organisers.

According to Cricbuzz, Ashwin is expected to register for the upcoming player auction of the tournament’s fourth edition.

The 37-year-old had announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League earlier this year, months after stepping away from international cricket. In his farewell note, Ashwin hinted at exploring opportunities across global T20 leagues.

“They say every ending will have a new start. My time as an IPL cricketer comes to a close today, but my time as an explorer of the game around various leagues begins today,” he wrote in a social media post.

This year’s ILT20 will adopt an auction model for the first time, replacing the earlier draft system. The auction is scheduled for September 30 in Dubai, with player registration closing on September 10.

Ashwin, confirming his interest, said: “Yes, I am in talks with the organisers. Hopefully, I will have a buyer if I register for the auction.”

If he enters, Ashwin will join a select group of Indians who have featured in ILT20. Ambati Rayudu represented MI Emirates in the previous season, while Robin Uthappa and Yusuf Pathan were also linked with franchises.
