As per a report by The Indian Express, seven players, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shardul Thakur, and Mohammed Siraj are set to undergo fitness test.

Shubman Gill, who has been named India’s vice-captain in T20Is, and Bumrah, the pace spearhead, must clear the test to retain their spots in the squad.

The BCCI has made it clear that even players already picked for the Asia Cup could be replaced if they fail to meet the required fitness standards.

The update comes after India wrapped up their home Test series against England earlier this month, giving players a short break before the Asia Cup campaign begins. However, the mandatory assessment means no player can take their place in the team for granted.

Interestingly, there is still no clarity around Virat Kohli. The former India captain, currently in London preparing for the upcoming ODI series against Australia, will also need to pass the COE test before being considered for selection.

Kohli, along with Rohit Sharma, has already retired from Tests and T20Is, and both were last seen in the Champions Trophy final in March this year.

India begin their Asia Cup campaign on September 10 against hosts UAE in Dubai, where they will be looking to defend their title.
