Not Australia ODIs, Rohit Sharma’s Return Date Confirmed

Rohit Sharma set to return in India A matches before Australia tour, reports hint it could be his last ODI series.

Rohit Sharma could be back on the field later this month, with reports suggesting he will feature in India A’s one-day matches before India’s tour of Australia.

According to a report by Revsportz, Rohit is expected to play the three one-day games against India A on September 30, October 3, and October 5 at Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium.

The matches are seen as an opportunity for him to get some game time before the senior Indian team’s three-match ODI series in Australia from October 19 to 25.

The India captain has not played since the IPL and is looking to regain touch before what could be his final assignment in international cricket.

At 38, Rohit has already retired from T20Is and Test cricket, and reports suggest he may not be in India’s plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

That has fuelled speculation that the Australia tour could be his last. Rohit has been India’s first-choice opener in ODIs for more than a decade, scoring runs consistently and leading the team through major tournaments.

But with his retirement in shorter formats already behind him, fans are wondering if he is preparing to walk away from ODIs too.

If Rohit steps aside, India will face two big questions: who replaces him as captain and who fills his role as opener.

Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill are being talked about as captaincy options, with Gill already gaining experience in England earlier this year.

Yashasvi Jaiswal looks the likely successor at the top of the order, though there are others waiting in the wings.

For now, Indian fans will keep an eye on Rohit’s return in Kanpur. His form in the A matches could decide not just how ready he is for the Australia tour, but also how long he continues in international cricket.
