Rashid Khan Registers Worst-Ever Spell In The Hundred As Livingstone Smashes Record Knock
Rashid Khan concedes 59 runs in The Hundred, the worst bowling figures in tournament history, as Livingstone hits 69*.
Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan had a night he will want to forget in The Hundred, recording the most expensive bowling figures in the tournament’s history.
The Oval Invincibles spinner was taken apart for 59 runs in his four overs without picking up a single wicket.
The main damage came from England powerhouse Liam Livingstone, whose unbeaten 69 off just 27 balls powered Birmingham Phoenix to a thrilling win.
Chasing 181, Livingstone tore into Rashid’s slower balls and slightly short lengths, smashing three sixes and two fours in a five-ball burst that yielded 26 runs.
Worst figures in The Hundred
Rashid’s 0/59 overtook the previous worst spells in the tournament, which included David Wiese’s 1/53 and David Payne’s 1/53. It also marked the most expensive bowling performance of Rashid’s entire T20 career.
Most runs conceded in The Hundred:
- Rashid Khan – 4 overs – 59 runs – 0 wickets
- David Wiese – 4 overs – 53 runs – 1 wicket
- David Payne – 4 overs – 53 runs – 1 wicket
- Steven Finn – 3 overs – 51 runs – 2 wickets
- Chris Wood – 4 overs – 49 runs – 0 wickets
Despite Rashid’s struggles, Birmingham Phoenix only sealed the win in the final over, crossing the target with four wickets in hand and two balls to spare.
Rashid’s dip in form and Livingstone’s unique record
The Afghan star’s struggles follow his recovery from back surgery after the 2023 World Cup. He has since admitted to feeling the effects of a rushed rehabilitation, with below-par showings in the Champions Trophy and IPL.
Adding to Rashid’s woes, Livingstone became the first batter in T20 cricket to score over 200 career runs against him. No other player has crossed 150 against the Afghan spin ace, but the Englishman has consistently found ways to dominate whenever they meet.
