ICC Women’s World Cup 2025: Trivandrum in Line to Replace Bengaluru as Host

Greenfield Stadium may host ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 matches after Bengaluru lost rights due to safety concerns

The allocation comes after the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru lost hosting rights to four matches following the June 4 stampede during RCB’s IPL title celebrations, which claimed 11 lives and injured over 50 people. Due to ongoing safety concerns, fixtures from the Chinnaswamy have also been shifted to the Srikantadatta Narasimha Raja Wadeyar Ground for the Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 2025, currently being played behind closed doors.

It remains unclear how many games the ICC will assign to the Greenfield Stadium, the only active international cricket venue in the region since Kochi’s Nehru Stadium switched exclusively to football. The ground last hosted an ODI in January 2023 when India faced Sri Lanka.

This will mark the first Women’s ODI World Cup in India since 2013, when India Women finished last in Group A with one win from three matches. Australia are the defending champions, having defeated England by 71 runs in the 2022 final, where Alyssa Healy claimed both Player of the Match and Player of the Series honours
