Rohit Sharma Spotted at The Oval, Backs Team India After Test Farewell
Former Indian captain Rohit Sharma was spotted at The Oval in London on Saturday, July 2. He arrived to watch Day 3 of the fifth and final Test between India and England. With the series standing at 2-1 in favour of England, this match could decide the outcome of the series.
Rohit, who was expected to lead India in this series, had earlier stepped away from Test cricket. He led India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in 2024-25. But after struggling to score runs in red-ball cricket, he announced his retirement during the IPL 2025 season.
Though no longer part of the playing XI, it was heartwarming to see Rohit back at a cricket ground, this time, as a fan. A video of him entering The Oval has gone viral online and brought smiles to many Indian supporters.
Akash Deep Scores Maiden Half-Century
While Rohit watched from the stands, India’s nightwatchman Akash Deep impressed with the bat. Promoted to No. 4 late on Day 2, Akash Deep resumed Day 3 unbeaten on 4 runs.
In the very first over, he smashed Jacob Bethell for a boundary. He played smart cricket, defending well and attacking when needed. He reached his maiden international fifty and stood tall against England’s bowlers.
