IND vs ENG 2025: Jamie Overton Added to England Squad for Fifth Test Against India

Jamie Overton joins England's squad for the final Test vs India as Stokes eyes fresh bowlers after heavy workloads.

Jamie Overton has been called up to England’s squad for the final Test against India. The fast bowler, who recently played for Surrey in the County Championship, is the only new name added after the fourth Test at Old Trafford.

England Looking for Fresh Legs

The fourth Test ended in a draw after England bowled a tiring 257.1 overs across two innings. Ben Stokes said the bowlers need time to rest before final decisions are made.

“If you look at how long we’ve been out in the field and the overs that we bowled as a bowling unit, everyone is going to be pretty sore and pretty tired going into the last game of the series,” Stokes told ESPNcricinfo.

“These recovery days are going to be pretty important and we might have to make a few decisions to get some fresh legs in. But that won’t be decided until we get closer to the last game,” he added.

Rotation Likely Among Tired Bowlers

England have mostly used the same bowling attack in this series. Chris Woakes has bowled 167 overs, the most by any player. Brydon Carse (155 overs) and Ben Stokes (140 overs) have also had a heavy load.

Jofra Archer came in for Josh Tongue after the first two matches. Archer, returning to red-ball cricket after four years, is still finding his rhythm. Liam Dawson was added in the fourth Test to cover for Shoaib Bashir, who is injured.

Josh Tongue, with 11 wickets so far, remains in contention. Gus Atkinson is another option after proving his fitness while playing for Surrey’s second team.

Overton last played a Test in 2022 but might be brought back to ease the workload on the main bowlers. With one game left in the series, England are clearly looking to balance performance with player recovery
