BCCI Makes U-Turn, Set to Join ACC Talks on Asia Cup 2025
BCCI to join ACC meeting online after earlier doubts; Asia Cup 2025 discussions still on schedule.
In a last-minute update, the BCCI has confirmed its attendance at the Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) annual general meeting, though not in person.
The meeting is set to be held in Dhaka on July 23 and 24, but the Indian board will be joining online.
Earlier, both the BCCI and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) had opted out of sending representatives physically to the event, raising questions about the future of the Asia Cup 2025.
The BCCI, which officially holds the hosting rights for the Asia Cup, was expected to play a major role in finalising the tournament plans.
While no official comment has come from either board about skipping the physical meeting, BCCI’s virtual presence now puts to rest some speculation.
The tournament is scheduled for September in the UAE, and the absence of its host from such a crucial meeting had stirred concern across the cricketing community.
The ACC meeting is being hosted in Bangladesh for the first time, with the BCB only handling logistics.
BCB president Aminul Islam refrained from commenting on the absence of India and Sri Lanka earlier this week.
However, he did confirm that all arrangements were in place to welcome the attending members.
ACC President and PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi landed in Dhaka on Wednesday, greeted by BCB officials.
The two-day meeting will be preceded by a gala dinner and is expected to involve key decisions regarding scheduling, logistics and participation in the Asia Cup.
